Doris E. Cook, 90, formerly of Mound Valley, died at 9:45 a.m., Monday, September 7, 2009, at Elmhaven East Nursing Home in Parsons. She had been in failing health.
She was born December 10, 1918, in Mound Valley, Kansas, to Harry B. and Grace A. (Kaufman) Mayginnes. She grew up in Mound Valley where she attended school at Elmwood Elementary and was a 1937 graduate of Labette County Community High School in Altamont.
She and Samuel M. Cook were married July 29, 1939, in Mound Valley. Following marriage, they lived in Mound Valley until moving to rural Cherryvale in 1953 where they farmed until returning to Mound Valley in 1976. In later years, she moved to Independence, Kansas, where she resided at Eagle Estates Assisted Living.
Through the years, she sold Avon, enjoyed reading and sewing. She was an active member of the Mound Valley United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Cook, in May 1980; and one son, Norval Cook.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 10, 2009, at the Mound Valley United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Mound Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont.
