Doris Jean (Davied) Kennedy, 74, of Bella Vista, Arkansas, and formerly of Altoona, Kansas, passed away with her family by her side at 11:00 a.m., Sunday, February 3, 2019 at Mercy Hospital in Rogers, Arkansas.

She was born December 18, 1944, in rural McCune, Kansas, the youngest daughter of John Leroy and Esther (McKinney) Davied. She grew up in the Greenbush-St. Paul area where she attended a rural one-room country school, Neutral, for six years. She then attended and graduated from St. Paul High School in 1963. Following high school, she attended Pittsburg State Teachers College School of Business and was employed at the Crawford County Treasury Department.

On September 11, 1963, she and Frank Kennedy were united in holy marriage at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Greenbush, Kansas. Following marriage, the couple lived in Minot, North Dakota, Tacoma, Washington, Webb City, Missouri, Parsons, Kansas, and in 1978 moved to Altoona, Kansas where they lived for 40 years and raised their family. Doris worked for 35 years in the Altoona-Midway schools as a Para-professional in special education. She loved helping all children, especially those with special needs.

She was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fredonia, Kansas, serving as a lector, Eucharistic minister, usher, and taught CCD classes for several years.

Doris was a devoted wife of 53 years, a loving and supportive mother, and adored her grandchildren. She was extremely proud of them and their accomplishments, spending endless hours attending their activities. She was an avid reader and loved growing flower gardens.

Grandchildren – Katelyn (Harryman) Tice and husband, Ty, Gavin J. Kennedy, and Sydney L. Kennedy

Four Brothers – Donald Davied of rural Girard, KS

Gerald Davied of rural Girard, KS

Bernard Davied of Pueblo, CO

Fr. Frank Davied of Pueblo, CO

One Sister – Clara Whelan of St. Paul, KS

Many Nieces and Nephews

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Leroy and Esther Davied; two brothers, Verdan Davied and James Davied; and two sisters, Kathleen (Davied) Ewan and Anna Mae (Davied) Mies.

Funeral Mass is scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 9, 2019 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fredonia. Burial will take place at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, at St. Aloysius Cemetery in Greenbush, Kansas. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m., Friday, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fredonia. The rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m., immediately following the visitation.
