Dorotha Helen Taylor, 99, a lifetime resident of the Coffeyville, Kansas, area, died Monday, August 28, 2017, at Windsor Place. She had lived in the assisted living facility for a few years before moving into the nursing home 10 years ago.
Mrs. Taylor was born April 29, 1918, on a farm south of Dearing, Kansas, to Orville Byron and Sadie Francille (Murray) Robertson. She attended school in Dearing and Coffeyville, graduating from Field Kindley High School in 1936 and Coffeyville Junior College in 1938.
She and Wayne R. Taylor were married on December 11, 1938, in Nowata, Oklahoma. They lived in Dearing until 1949, when they moved to a farm near Edna. Mr. Taylor worked as a machinist/pattern maker in Coffeyville and farmed part-time. In 1966, they moved to a smaller farm in rural Coffeyville. After Mr. Taylor's retirement, they traveled extensively. The Taylors celebrated their 50 th anniversary in 1988. Mr. Taylor preceded her in death on June 2, 1991. Mrs. Taylor later moved to Coffeyville.
Mrs. Taylor taught school in their early marriage years in rural Elk County and at Cedar Bluff. She enjoyed teaching, reading, and presenting book reviews to her study group and was active for many years in a home extension unit. She was a longtime member of the Edna and later Coffeyville United Methodist churches, where she taught Sunday School.
Survivors include her son, Ronald, his wife, Carole, and a grandson, John, all of Tulsa.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kayleen, in 1988; and two brothers, Byron and Boyd Robertson.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 1, 2017, at the Edna Elm Grove Cemetery. Friends may call after 4:00 p.m., Thursday, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont.
