Dorothy V. Brown, 91, of Parsons, formerly of McCune, passed away at 5:54 p.m., Sunday, September 12, 2010, at the Parsons Good Samaritan Society where she had resided the past two years.
She was born June 26, 1919, in Jacksonville, Kansas, to Charles Liberty "Bert" and Grace (Warnick) Amos. She grew up and attended school in the McCune rural area. During World War II, she worked at the Kansas Ordnance Plant and also did housekeeping for families in the McCune area.
She and Hershel R. Brown were married September 9, 1949, in Girard, Kansas. Following marriage, they lived in California for a time before moving back to McCune where they lived until she moved to the nursing home. He preceded her in death April 21, 2001.
She was a member of the Nazarene Church in McCune. She enjoyed playing the piano, tending to her flower gardens, and especially delighted in spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include:
One Son – Gary Brown and wife, Judy rural McCune, KS
Two Daughters – Donna Ammann and husband, Albert rural Parsons, KS
Linda Warren and husband, Charles rural Altamont, KS
Four Grandchildren – Charles Brown, Justin Brown, Troy Warren and
Craig Warren
Four Great-Grandchildren – Ava Brown, Grant Rankins, Ayden Warren and
Greenly Warren; and expecting a great-grandson
later this month
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Alfred Amos and one sister, Mary Spillman.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 16, 2010, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in McCune Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home.
