Dorothy J. Freeberg, 94, of Parsons, passed away at 9:45 a.m., Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Elm Haven East Nursing Home in Parsons.

She was born April 7, 1923 in Parsons, Kansas to William and Fern (Smith) Sayers. Dorothy grew up in Parsons where she attended schools and graduated from Parsons High School.

On December 12, 1943, she and Virgil L. Freeberg were married in Parsons. Following marriage, the couple lived in Parsons where she attended the Parsons Beauty Academy. Dorothy owned and operated a beauty shop in Parsons for one year before moving to Coffeyville where she worked at Continental Can. They later returned to Parsons where she worked as a nurse's aide at the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center. They then lived in Chanute where she worked as housekeeping supervisor at the Tuberculosis Hospital and later at I.L.C. Corporation as a line supervisor. She also worked as a bookkeeper for grain elevators in Mildred, Colony, and Parsons. In 1977, they returned to Parsons.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Parsons. She enjoyed spending time with her family and attending her grandchildren's activities. In earlier years, Dorothy was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Parsons Saddle Club, and various square dance clubs. She also enjoyed boating and camping with her family.

Survivors include:

Two Sons – Donald L. Freeberg and his wife, Connie, of Gardner, KS

Rick E. Freeberg and his wife, Tina, of Parsons, KS

One Daughter – Diana Jean Frazier and her husband, Steve, of Savonburg, KS

Eight Grandchildren

Eleven Great-Grandchildren

One Great-Great-Grandson

She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Freeberg, on May 19, 2011; one son, Ronald Freeberg; and three brothers, Wilford, Bill, and Wayne Sayers.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be at Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Parsons. Friends may call at their convenience after 1:00 p.m., on Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church in Parsons. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
