Dorothy R. Hopkins

Dorothy R. Hopkins, 67, of Chetopa, and formerly of Parsons, passed away at 10:10 p.m., Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.

She was born August 11, 1951 in Oswego, Kansas. Dorothy was raised by her mother and stepfather, Ruth Louise (Cox) Pruitt and Harold Pruitt. As a young girl, she grew up in Oswego and attended schools in Oswego and Chetopa.

Dorothy later lived in Parsons. Through the years, she worked at Power Flame, the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant, Signature Sportswear, in the deli at Country Mart, and Amazon.

On December 31, 2018, Dorothy accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was also a member of the Big Hill CB Club and the Sunflower CBers with a handle of "Momma Flint Rock". She enjoyed riding motorcycles, camping, playing cards and marbles, and spending time with her grandchildren.

In 1970, she and Harold Wilson were married. They later divorced. In 1978, she and Harold Hopkins were married. He preceded her in death in 2000.

One Son - Jason Hopkins (Kelly) of Parsons, KS

One Daughter – Sara Amburgey (Chris) of Overland Park, KS

Ten Grandchildren

Four Great-Grandchildren

One Brother – Ed Rakestraw (Suzette) of Chetopa, KS

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Harold Wilson, Jr.; two daughters, infant Audrey Lynn Rakestraw and Cynthia L. Wilson; one brother, Wendell Gard; and two sisters, Phyllis Rakestraw and Rose Mary Elkins.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 11, 2019 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons with Rev. Clarence Newman officiating. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.
