Dorothy Fay Ledbetter, 90, of Edna, passed away at 8:25 p.m., Thursday, December 31, 2020, at Medicalodge Nursing Home in Coffeyville.

Dorothy Fay Foister was born on August 22, 1930, to Jesse Howard and Alta May (Hayes) Foister in rural Edna. She grew up in rural Edna, attending Parkville Grade School and graduating from Edna High School in 1948.

Throughout her life, Dorothy worked at a number of places. She was a switchboard operator for the Edna Telephone Exchange; a bookkeeper for McCoy Lumber and Edna Lumberyard; a salesclerk for Classy Lady Dress Shop in Coffeyville; and a local news writer for the Edna Sun and Labette Avenue. Dorothy will be most remembered for being the librarian at the Edna Public Library.

She was a member of the Edna United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. Her greatest enjoyment came from spending time with her family.

On November 9, 1951, Dorothy and James "Sonny" Ledbetter were united in marriage in Bentonville, Arkansas. The couple made their lifelong home in Edna. Sonny preceded her in death on November 9, 2011, the couple's 60 th wedding anniversary.

Survivors include:

Two daughters – Susan Melton and her husband, Larry, of Edna, Kansas

Alice Duncan and her husband, Will, of Dearing, Kansas

Four grandsons – James "Jed" Melton and his wife, Tammy; Eric Melton and his wife, Dawn; Andrew "Andy" Duncan and his wife, Alexis; and Jesse Duncan

Ten great-grandchildren – Alyssa Melton, Victoria Melton, Michael Fawcett, Alyssa Fawcett, Matthew Fawcett, Ava Duncan, Alivia Duncan, Benjamin Duncan, Brantley Duncan, and Eliaas Duncan

Several Step-grandchildren and Step-great-grandchildren

One brother – Howard Foister and his wife, Jessie

One sister-in-law – Martha Foister

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sonny; one brother, John Foister; and one grandson, Douglas Melton.

A private family service will be held at the Edna United Methodist Church with Pastor Jamie Regis of Dearing Christian Church officiating. Friends may call to sign the register from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Thursday, January 7, 2021, at the church. Burial will take place at the Edna Elm Grove Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Edna Public Library, Edna United Methodist Church, or the Edna Fire Department. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
