Dorothy I. (Mahan) Singleton, 83, of Mesa, Arizona, and formerly of Altamont, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2015 in Mesa, Arizona.

She was born February 19, 1932 near Mound Valley, Kansas to Earl and Hanna (Peterson) Mahan. She grew up in rural Altamont and was a graduate of Labette County Community High School in Altamont.

Following high school, she moved to Arizona where she worked for a time before returning to Independence, Kansas where she worked at the Independence Bible School as cook and dean of girls for five years. She then moved back to Mesa where she lived until she returned to help care for her mother. Following her mother's passing, she returned to Mesa where she ministered to the Indians through the Bible Holiness Mission. She was a member of the Bible Holiness Church.

On December 27, 1991, she and Leslie Singleton were married in rural Altamont. He preceded her in death on November 6, 2003.

Through the years, she served as missionary to the Indians and was a foster parent to six Indian children who remained close to her throughout her life.

Survivors include one stepson, Marion Keith Singleton, and his wife, Rodalia; three step-granddaughters; one brother, Gene Mahan, and his wife, Laveta, of rural Altamont, KS; one niece, Kaylene Hinthorn; three nephews, Dwight, Dean, and Doyle Mahan; and several great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one nephew, Dale Mahan.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 18, 2015 at the Bible Holiness Church in Altamont. Burial will be in Mound Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont.

Memorials are suggested to the Lehi Bible Holiness Church in Mesa, Arizona or the Independence Bible School. These may be left at or mailed to Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 325, Altamont, KS 67330.
