Dorothy Y. Misener, 89, of Parsons, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2022, at Elm Haven East Nursing Home in Parsons.

Dorothy Yvonne Williams was born March 30, 1933, to Wiley Alfred and Bertha Jane (Lyon) Williams in Cherryvale.  As a young girl, she grew up and attended school in Cherryvale.

On August 12, 1950, she and Ralph Leon Misener were united in marriage in Bentonville, Arkansas.  The couple made their first home in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  In 1954, they moved to Parsons, where they lived the rest of their lives.

While raising four children, Dorothy attended the Chanute Public School of Practical Nursing in 1965 and earned her Licensed Vocational Nurse certificate.  Over the years, Dorothy used her nursing skills and natural compassion to care for many in the area.  She worked in several area hospitals; at The Good Samaritan Society; and at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant, from where she retired.  In her retirement, she often worked as a private care nurse.

Dorothy was member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Parsons.  Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family.  She loved playing card games with her family, traveling and going to concerts.  Elvis was her favorite singer and she attended many of his concerts.

Survivors include:

Three daughters – Jane Aronhalt; Gloria Ewing and her husband, Chuck; and Kathy Misener

One son – David Misener and his wife, Sandy

Five grandchildren

Ten great-grandchildren

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph; one sister, Thelma Pierson; two brothers, Al Williams and Joe Williams; and one granddaughter, Trisha Lynn Ewing.

There will be a Celebration of Life from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Saturday, May 28, 2022, at Faith United Methodist Church, 3035 Crawford, Parsons, KS.  Inurnment will take place at Harmony Grove Cemetery in rural Dennis.

Memorials are suggested to Faith United Methodist Church.  These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS  67357.
