Dortha Mae Lancaster, 78, of rural Welch, Oklahoma, formerly of Chetopa, Kansas, died at 12:05 a.m., Friday, February 22, 2013, at her home.
She was born June 18, 1934, in Lowell, Kansas, to James Howard and Opal (Phenix) Schofield. As a young girl, she attended rural schools.
Through the years she worked as a cook in area restaurants including Redwood Café in Chetopa and Newman's Café in Welch. She had also cared for the elderly.
She enjoyed reading, yard work, remodeling houses and wallpapering. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
She and Vernon Taylor were married in Arkansas. They later divorced. On December 21, 1966, she and W. W. Lancaster, Jr. were married. He preceded her in death August 30, 1987.

Eight Grandchildren: Bobby Johnson, Sheilla Root, Amy Russell,
Andrea Dickerson, Justin Appleton, Lexi Mercer, Rachel Mercer and
Kacie Mercer
Ten Great-Grandchildren
One Brother – Harvey Schofield Oronogo, MO
One Sister – Georgia Garrett Alabama
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by numerous brothers and sisters; three children, an infant son, Vernon Taylor; Donna Appleton and David Lancaster; and one grandson, Chad Appleton.
Following cremation, memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 28, 2013, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa. Private burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Chetopa.
