Dorthy Bath, 80, longtime Altamont resident, passed away at 4:48 a.m., Thursday, December 26, 2019, at her home.
Dorthy Jane Low was born on February 16, 1939, to Hurley Alva and Vera Lorene (Beason) Low in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Growing up, Dorthy lived in various cities in Oklahoma and Kansas where her father served as a minister.
In 1957, Dorthy graduated from Sedan High School and she then attended Ottawa University for a time.
On November 25, 1964, Dorthy and Herb C. Bath were united in marriage at the First Baptist Church in Neodesha, Kansas. The couple lived in Neodesha and then Sedan, where Herb worked for a funeral home. In March 1976, Dorthy and Herb moved to Altamont where Herb worked for Sperry Funeral Home. Herb purchased an interest in the Sperry-McConnell-Bath Funeral Home in 1979. In the 1980's they became sole owners of the Bath Funeral Home until retiring in 2004.
Dorthy, a talented singer, pianist and organist, shared her musical gifts with her church communities, including the children's choirs. She was currently attending the Western Way Cowboy Church in rural Altamont. In the past, Dorthy was active in Kansas Funeral Directors Association, The Gideons, and the Jaycees. Dorthy enjoyed painting, quilting, sewing and crafts.

One Son – Shawn Bath and his wife, Carrie, of Altamont
One Daughter – Michaele Day and her husband, Jon, of Altamont
Eleven Grandsons – Moriah Day and his wife, Bekah; Nathanael Day, Jordan Day and his wife, Edie; Seth Day; Micah Day; Ethan Day; Philip Day; Benjamin Day; Nathan Strathe and his wife, Sierra; Matt Strathe, and Trevor Strathe
Six Granddaughters – Hannah Day; Bethany Day; Shoshanna Day; Phoebe Day; Ashtyn Bath; and Mallory Dixon and her husband, Jaran
Four Great-Grandchildren – Dru Dixon, Dathon Day, Cam Dixon and Eleanor Day
The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at the Western Way Cowboy Church in rural Altamont. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in rural Altamont. The family will receive friends 7 – 8:00 p.m., Monday at the church.
