Dovie Christine Turner

October 6, 1923 — April 13, 2009

Dovie Christine (Cargile) Turner, 85, of Wichita, died at 1:00 p.m., Monday, April 13, 2009, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Della Jo and Albert Schaper, in Parsons.

Born October 6, 1923, in Hockerville, Oklahoma, to Otis B. and Georgia Elizabeth (Kee) Cargile, she was the second of eight children. She grew up and attended schools in southwest Missouri.

For several years, she lived in Granby, Missouri, before moving to Wichita where she lived 50 years. In 2007, she moved to Parsons to be near family.

She was a member of the Bible Holiness Church in Wichita. Music was a big part of her life. She began to play the guitar soon after her parents were saved when she was nine years old and played and sang specials for church services and revivals over the years. She sang a special with Della Jo and Albert in Parsons just weeks before going to sing around the throne in heaven. At family gatherings there was always a guitar, banjo, harmonica, piano music and singing of gospel songs.

Christine loved children, especially her own children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, but all children were included. For over 28 years, she did babysitting for approximately 100 Wichita children, making sure they knew they were loved as she watched their first steps, heard their first words, and made sure they knew about Jesus.

Christine and Gene Willie Turner were married August 21, 1948, in Neosho, Missouri. He survives of the home.
