Dwane Barr, 66, of Chetopa, died at 6:48 p.m., Wednesday, January 16, 2008, at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin.
He was born April 5, 1941, in Craig County, Oklahoma, to Arthur and Nadine Elouse (Wiley) Barr.
As a young boy, he grew up and attended schools in the Chetopa area. He was a graduate of Chetopa High School and continued his education at Parsons Jr. College for one year.
He farmed and raised livestock most of his life and also fed cattle for many years.
He was part owner of the Barr Lumber Company in Chetopa. His ultimate dream was realized when oil was discovered on his land. He loved spending time with his nephews and especially enjoyed helping raise them.

He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Barr; one nephew, Bart Wright; and one great-nephew, Nathan Wright.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 19, 2008, at the First Christian Church in Chetopa. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa.
