Dwight "David" Hastings, 72, of Parsons, died at his home Thursday, September 21, 2017.

He was born on March 11, 1945, in Big Cabin, Oklahoma.  As a child, he moved with his family to Parsons where he grew up and attended schools.  He graduated from Parsons High School and later joined the United States Navy.  Following his discharge form the Navy, he returned to Parsons.  David worked for the Katy Railroad before beginning employment at the First Baptist Church as the custodian.  He worked at the church many years.  Later he worked in the custodial department at Labette Community College, where he retired.

He was a member of First Baptist Church.  He enjoyed his grandchildren.  David was an avid H.A.M. radio operator and belonged to several clubs in the area.  He enjoyed airplanes and flying, riding motorcycles, and fishing.

He and Margaret "Peggy" Witty were married on May 18, 1975 at First Baptist Church in Parsons. She preceded him in death on July 14, 2003.

Survivors include:

Two daughters – Cara Mead and husband James Bulmer      Ottawa, Kansas

Crystal Hastings                                          Salt Lake City, Utah

Two grandchildren – Holley Mead and Ruger Bulmer

One Brother – Charles Hastings                                 Parsons, Kansas

Three Sisters – Shirley Powell                        Chesterfield, Michigan

Ramona DeCow                                 Edna, Kansas

Sheena Bise                                         Parsons, Kansas

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Remington Bulmer.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.  The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m., Monday at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home.  Online condolences may be left at www.forbeshoffman.com
