Earl Harold Foss

April 8, 1933 — March 26, 2008

Earl H. Foss, 74, of Chetopa, died at 6:45 p.m., Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin.

He was born April 8, 1933, in Loveland, Colorado, to Arthur and Frances (Hodges) Foss. He graduated from Columbus High School before entering the U.S. Army where he served from 1953 – 1955. Following his discharge, he continued serving his country through the Army Reserves from 1955-1963.

He was raised in the rural Oswego area. He farmed off and on throughout his entire life. He worked for B.F. Goodrich in Miami, Oklahoma for many years, then for Sunbeam in Neosho, Missouri until retirement.

He and Pat S. Ridgway were married July 17, 1953, in Chetopa. She preceded him in death August 8, 1998. He and JoAnn (Pearce) Morgan were married September 3, 1999, at Miami, Oklahoma.

He was one of the Founders of the Chetopa Little League and greatly enjoyed coaching Little League Baseball. He was also a member and past president of the Chetopa Jaycees. His favorite pastime was baseball, which he shared his love of the game with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and harvest time in the pecan groves. He loved spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren play sports. He was an active member of the Community Bible Church in Chetopa where he received great pleasure from volunteering.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, a son-in-law, and a granddaughter.

Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 29, 2008, at Oak Hill Cemetery in Chetopa with military honors given by American Legion Post #147 Funeral Detail, Miami, Oklahoma. The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday, March 28, 2008, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa. The family can also be contacted at the home of his daughter, Kelli, at 515 E. Cherry, Chetopa.
