Edith M. Gilliland, 87, of Chetopa, died at 12:30 a.m., Friday, September 15, 2006 at her home.
She was born August 23, 1919, into a family of five brothers and two sisters on a farm near Southard, Oklahoma. Her parents were Tom Elie and Rettie Isebell (Stuart) Wallace. She grew up in a railroad family and attended grade school in Hinton, Oklahoma. She later graduated from Tonkawa High School.
Following high school graduation she moved to Wichita where she was employed by Coman War Plant. On June 27, 1948, she married Harold Gilliland in Wichita where they continued to live for a time. During their years together, her husband was a Pentecostal minister. They later moved to Eldon, Missouri where they began raising their family. In 1960, the family relocated to Chetopa where they made their home at Riverside Bait on East Maple. She and her husband owned and operated Riverside Bait for a number of years. They later purchased their home where the family had resided until her death.
Her hobbies included sewing, flower gardening and going for drives whenever possible. She especially enjoyed the time she and her husband had spent fishing through the years. She also enjoyed spending time with her sons and their families. She attended the Chetopa Church of God.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold, on January 13, 1985; five brothers and one sister.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 18, 2006 at the Chetopa Church of God. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Chetopa. Friends may call at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa after 10:00 a.m., Sunday, September 17, 2006.
