Edith M. Olson

Edith M. Olson, 74, passed away at 10:46 a.m., Thursday, August 13, 2020, at Labette Health in Parsons.

Edith Mae Gwartney was born on January 28, 1946, to Elmer James and Mattie Marie (Bartlett) Gwartney in Mound Valley, Kansas. As a young girl, she grew up and attended school in Mound Valley.

Most of Edith's life, she lived in the Mound Valley and Angola area. For several years, she worked as a surgical aide at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. She also worked at the Cherryvale Nursing Home for about 10 years.

She attended the Mound Valley Baptist Church. Her greatest enjoyment came from spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed knitting, flower gardening and taking care of her dogs and especially her mule.

Edith married Everett L. Bolinger, Sr. The couple later divorced. On August 21, 1970, she was united in marriage with Albert Paul Olson in Miami, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on November 25, 2011.

Two sons – Everett Bolinger, Jr. and his wife, Helen, of Hereford, Texas

Michael Bolinger of Cherryvale, Kansas

Three daughters – Lavena Baker of South Coffeyville, Kansas

Shawn Sumner and her husband, Floyd, of Melrose, Kansas

Angela Ryan of Mound Valley, Kansas

Fourteen grandchildren

Nineteen great-grandchildren

Two brothers – Charles Gwartney of Parsons, Kansas

David Gwartney of Parsons, Kansas

One sister – Betty Morrow of Parsons, Kansas

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert Olson; one granddaughter; two great-granddaughters; one great-grandson; and two brothers, Jim Gwartney and infant Clay Edward Gwartney.

There will be a graveside service 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 28, 2020, at the Mound Valley Cemetery.
