Edward Hernandez, Sr., 72, of Parsons, died at 11:15 a.m., Thursday, February 7, 2008, at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin.
He was born May 5, 1935, in Parsons, to Daniel Hernandez, Sr. and Francisca (Yanez) Hernandez. He grew up in Parsons where he attended Lincoln Elementary School, East Jr. High and was a graduate of Parsons High School.
He worked at the Coca Cola plant in Parsons before beginning his 30 year employment with the Katy and Union Pacific Railroads. For a time, he moved to North Little Rock, Arkansas, to continue his work with the railroad. Upon his retirement in 1996, he returned to Parsons.
He and Dorothy J. Henson were married September 3, 1954, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons. They later divorced.
He enjoyed sports, especially football and softball. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, family and friends. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Elks Lodge No. 527, Fraternal Order of Eagles and the National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, infants Lupe and Jimmy, and James Hernandez; one sister, Rebecca Jaramillo; and infant daughter, DeAnna Hernandez.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 11, 2008, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The parish rosary is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., Sunday, at the church. The family will receive friends immediately following the rosary.
