Edwin D. "Ed" Smith

Edwin D. "Ed" Smith, 61, of Chetopa, passed away at 11:50 a.m., Monday, December 28, 2015 at Oswego Health and Rehab.

He was born October 30, 1954 in Oswego, Kansas to Edwin H. and Betty G. (Botonis) Smith. He grew up and attended school in Chetopa and was a 1972 graduate of Chetopa High School where he participated in band. He then attended Labette Community College in Parsons.

For many years, Ed owned and operated Smith's Tax Service in Chetopa. He also had worked as a machinist and at the Water Treatment Plant in Chetopa.

He had served on the Chetopa City Council and in earlier years was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed gardening, music, playing the guitar and trumpet, and practicing Karate.

He and Carla Swepston were married. They later divorced.

Two Sons – Steve Smith Topeka, KS
Izak Smith Spring, TX
One Sister – Betty Nettles Spring, TX
Nephew – Chris Rauscher
Two Nieces – Sierra Nettles and Miranda Hall
Great-Nephew – Dylan Hall

Following cremation, memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 4, 2016 at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa. Burial will be in Lake Creek Cemetery near Bartlett. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home prior to the memorial service.
