Elaine E. Brown, 96, of Edna, Kansas, died at 10:10 p.m., Friday, March 23, 2012 at the Chetopa Manor Nursing Home in Chetopa,
Kansas.


She was born near Edna, Kansas to Fredrick and Alice (Houck) Stine on July 13, 1915. She grew up and attended school at the Star country school and graduated from the Labette County Community High School in Altamont in 1934. She worked at a cafe in Altamont before she was married. She worked at Bella Hess mail order house in Parsons and Minor's Fabric Shop in Parsons. She also worked at the Jolly Kid clothing manufacturing company in Coffeyville and also the Stine Hardware in Edna where she worked until retiring in 1988. She also had done upholstery work from her home.


She had attended the Elm Christian Church in Edna and was active in the quilting guild there. She belonged to the Royal Neighbors of America and had been on the Edna Library board at one time. She enjoyed red birds, flowers and doing fancy handwork. She also enjoyed cooking and quilting for her family.


She was married to Paul Brown at Columbus, Kansas on November 2, 1936. He preceded her in death on May 1, 1993. Following their marriage, they lived in Altamont for a time before moving to Edna in May of 1951.


She is survived by, Two Daughters: Shirley Kimrey of Edna, KS and Judy Cunningham and her husband Don of Broken Arrow, OK; One Son, Charles Brown and his wife, Carole of Grove, OK; Nine Grandchildren; Sixteen Great-grandchildren; Eleven Great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Ethel Hayden and Lucille Stine; two brothers, Roy and Howard Stine. She was also preceded in death by one son-in-law, Cecil Kimrey.


Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday at the Edna Elmgrove Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home at Altamont from 7 to 8 p.m., Tuesday.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Elm Christian Church, the Edna Library or to the Chetopa Manor Activity Fund and these may be left at the funeral home at 510 S.
