Elizabeth E. "Betty" O'Hara, 77, of Parsons, died at 12:34 p.m., Thursday, September 11, 2008, in the Emergency Room at Labette Health. She had been in failing health; however, death was not expected.
She was born March 4, 1931, in McCune, Kansas, to Harold L. "Shorty" and Alice Cecilia (Fowler) Schreuer. As a child, she moved with her family to St. Paul, where she attended Lakeview Country School. Later, her family moved to Walnut, where she graduated from St. Patrick's High School in 1949.
Following high school graduation, she attended nurses training at Mercy Hospital in Parsons. She then began her lifelong career, as a registered nurse, at Parsons State Hospital and Training Center, retiring from there in 1995, following 39 years of service.
Mrs. O'Hara was a faithful member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons, its Altar Society and Daughters of Isabella. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, and working crossword puzzles. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, family and friends.
She and John T. "Jack" O'Hara, Sr. were married on June 30, 1956, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on May 15, 2002.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 16, 2008, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The Daughters of Isabella Rosary will be at 6:00 p.m., and the Parish Rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m., Monday, September 15, 2008, at the church. Immediately following the Parish Rosary, the family will receive friends in Parish Hall. The family will also be receiving friends from 4-5:00 p.m., Sunday at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
