Elizabeth Jane Pape, 79, of Oswego, passed away at 7:10 a.m., Monday, May 19, 2014, in the Emergency Room at Labette Health in Parsons.
She was born December 26, 1934, in rural Oswego, Kansas, to Johnny Grayson and Irene Pearl (Milam) Strickland. As a young girl, she grew up in Labette City, Kansas, and was a graduate of Labette County Community High School in Altamont. She later attended Franklin Tech in Joplin, Missouri, where she received training as a licensed practical nurse.
On May 10, 1953, she and Walter M. Pape, Jr. were married in Bentonville, Arkansas. For a time, she worked as a nurse's aide at Trinity Methodist Hospital in Dodge City, Kansas, before moving to Oswego in 1968. From 1968 through 1993, she worked at Oswego Hospital and later Columbus Home Health and the Oswego Ambulance Service. For many years, she also taught CPR classes.
She was an active member of the Assembly of God Church in Oswego and the Women's Missionary Association. In earlier years, Elizabeth had attended the Labette Baptist Church. She enjoyed working in the church, quilting, embroidery, and gardening. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and her Dachshund, Angel. In everything she did, Elizabeth always gave her best.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Walter Pape, Jr., of the home; three daughters, Debbie Landers and her husband, Joe Landers, Sr., of Parsons, KS, Vickie Amershek of McCune, KS, and Kristi Trim and her husband, J.L. Trim, of Erie, KS; ten grandchildren, Joe Landers, Jr., Jenni Thompson, Amy Reynolds, Heather Landers, Lisa Seawood, Austin Amershek, Brandon Howard, Joshua Howard, John Trim and Patty Snook; 20 great-grandchildren and one due in August; one great-great-grandchild due in October; two sisters, Barbara Palumbo of Frontenac, KS, and Glenda Taggart of Dennis, KS; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Bob Strickland and Ronnie Robbins; and a son-in-law, Frank Amershek.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 23, 2014 at Labette Baptist Church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery near Bartlett. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Thursday, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
