Elizabeth A. Spunaugle, 82, of Oswego and formerly of Altamont, passed away at 4:46 a.m. Sunday, July 31, 2022, at her home in Oswego.
Elizabeth Ann Lawson was born on December 26, 1939, to Charles M. and Wanetia M. (Crain) Lawson in rural Altamont. As a young girl, she grew up and attended school in Altamont. She moved with her family to Oswego, graduating from Oswego High School. Following high school, she earned an Associate's degree from Labette Community College.
Over the years, Elizabeth worked as a nurse's aide in nursing homes in Altamont, Oswego and Parsons.
A devoted Christian, Elizabeth faithfully attended the Labette Baptist Church until recently due to ill health. In earlier years, she attended the First Baptist Church of Altamont. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the VFW Post 1372 in Columbus.
Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles.
On October 14, 1956, Elizabeth and Charles Spunaugle were united in marriage. He preceded her in death on October 7, 2007.

Two daughters – Shirley Bowers of Oswego, Kansas
Brenda Beach of Parsons, Kansas
Seven grandchildren – Freedom McCobb; Michael Bowers, Jr.; Shanna Spunaugle (Nick); Jason Beach (Mary); Kristina Niegisch; Richard Bretton; and Beau Shaw (Mandy)
Eighteen great-grandchildren
Eight great-great-grandchildren
One sister-in-law – Jeanie Anderson of Pryor, Oklahoma
Two Nephews and a Niece
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; one daughter, Jeannie Niegisch; and two brothers, Richard Lawson and Leroy Lawson.
The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 6, 2022, at the Labette Baptist Church in Labette City. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Altamont. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
