Ella H. York, 73, of McCune, died at 6:06 p.m., Friday, July 5, 2013 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin.

She was born July 12, 1939 in rural Girard, Kansas to Albert Lahey and Lucille (Kennedy) Lahey. She grew up in McCune and graduated from McCune High School in 1957. She and Jack E. York were married on August 23, 1958 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons. They lived in Lecompton, Kansas for a short time before moving to McCune. She and her husband owned and operated the J&E market in McCune from 1971 to 1977. Mr. York preceded her in death on January 27, 2000.

Mrs. York enjoyed working in her yard and growing flowers. She also enjoyed shopping trips to Branson and in earlier years traveling with her husband on their motorcycle.

She was a member of the Catholic Church and had been a member of the ETA Phi sorority.

Two Daughters – Kelly Duffin Pittsburg, Kansas

Stacy Ewbank McCune, Kanas

Nine Grandchildren:
Angella Saporito, Kimberly Castagno, Jessica York, Vanessa York, Adam York, Riley York, Valerie York, Devon York, Kalee Ewbank

Six Great-grandchildren:
Cade, Cal, and Cord Saporito, Raine Groomer, Isabel Workman, Jacen Workman and one more on the way.

One Brother – Michael Lahey Parsons, Kansas

One Sister – Patricia Ringle Parsons, Kansas

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Tricia York.

The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 8, 2013 at the Mother of God Catholic Church in Oswego. Burial will be in the McCune Cemetery in McCune.

The Rosary will be at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, July 7, 2013 at the church. The family will receive friends at the church following the Rosary.
