Ellen Jane Hannebohn, 83, of Chetopa, passed away on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at Solace House, in Joplin, MO.
She was born June 24, 1943, in Crawfordsville, Indiana to Homer Edward and Martha Elizabeth (Ferrell) Hancock. Jane grew up and attended school in Crawfordsville.
Following high school, Jane married James Howard Hannebohn, Sr. August 25, 1963, in Browns Valley, Indiana. The couple moved for James’ career, where he served in ministry. The family lived in several cities while children grew up. Some of the cities included; Crawfordsville, Indiana, Dover, Indiana, Vestaburg, Michigan, Mattoon, Illinois, Sheldon, Illinois, Jay, Oklahoma, and Chetopa, Kansas.
Besides being a pastor’s wife, she also worked as a cafeteria monitor in different school cafeterias. She was active in Brownies, Girl Scouts, and Sunshine Girls.
In her spare time, she enjoyed doing crafts. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Chetopa.

Martha Ann Vermillion and husband Matthew Broken Arrow, OK
Beverly Marie Rupert and partner Thomas Van Valkenburg Chetopa
One Son – Glenn “Eddie” Edward Hannebohn Chetopa
Two Grandsons- Harold Lee Vermillion Broken Arrow, OK
Dakota James Rupert Sapula, OK
One Granddaughter – Kaileen Rose Van Valkenburg Chetopa
One Sister – Nancy Joan Leoucis and husband Homer Decatur, IL
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son: James Howard “Jimmy” Hannebohn, Jr.
Cremation is chosen. Services are pending at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa. In lieu of Memorials please donate to First Christian Church, 912 Maple St, Chetopa, KS 67336. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
