Ellis E. Wells, 92, longtime resident of Altamont, died at 12:45 a.m., Sunday, October 24, 2010, at the Parsons Good Samaritan Society.
He was born April 23, 1918, in Partridge, Kansas, to Louis R. and Myrtle (Hobson) Wells. As a young boy, he grew up and attended school in Partridge.
He and Alta Nading were married November 18, 1938, in Columbus, Kansas. Following marriage, he farmed in the rural Oswego and Altamont areas, worked as a mechanic at Dwyers Garage, and during World War II, worked at the Kansas Ordnance Plant in Parsons. He then began his 37 year career as bus supervisor for Unified School District No. 506 in Altamont retiring from there in 1984.
He was a Methodist his entire life and was currently a member of the United Methodist Church in Altamont. He was also a member of the Kansas State Pupil Transportation Association where he served as vice-president, the Altamont Lions Club where he served as president, secretary and treasurer; and the Altamont Community Association where he served as president. He also was recognized by the State of Kansas KDOT Safety Department for 37 years of service in transportation.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Ralph, John, Vernon and Louis Wells; and two sisters, Kathleen Pippen and Louise Weber.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 29, 2010, at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Altamont. The family will receive friends at 9:00 a.m., on Friday, until service time, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont.
