Elmer Dwayne Curnutte, 79, of Coldspring, Texas, formerly of Altamont, Kansas, died at 10:20 p.m., Saturday, September 4, 2010, at Memorial Health Systems of East Texas in Lufkin, Texas.
He was born May 2, 1931, in Altamont, Kansas, to Arthur and Myrtle Mae (Nading) Curnutte. As a young boy, he grew up and attended school in Altamont.
He served in the United States Army as a tank mechanic. Upon his discharge from the Army, he lived in Colorado where he worked for Western Electric. At the age of 52 he retired and, in 1973, moved to Texas where he had lived since.
He enjoyed fishing and tending to his blackberry bushes. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Texas. He was a baptized in the Baptist Church.
He and Bobbye Jo Andrews were married May 2, 1952, in Russellville, Arkansas. She survives of the home.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Carol Lynn Merten; and one son, Stephen Dwayne Curnutte.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, September 11, 2010, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery near Bartlett. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home.
