Elsie Louise Gilfillan, 102, of Edna, died at 9:10 a.m., Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at Elm Haven East Nursing Home in Parsons.
She was born August 29, 1907, in Indian Territory, Oklahoma, to Augustus and Lucy (Miller) Banzet. As a young girl, she grew up and attended rural schools in Labette County. She was a graduate of Labette County Community High School in Altamont and earned a teaching certificate from Pittsburg State Teachers College. She taught 16 years in one-room schools in rural Labette County, and after working several years at Phillips Petroleum Company in Bartlesville, she and her husband, Robert, moved to Colorado. While living in Colorado, she worked in the educational system for 21 years before retiring and returning to Edna in 1977.
She was a member of the Edna Civic Organization, Royal Neighbors, and enjoyed crocheting and quilting.
She and Robert Gilfillan were married September 11, 1946, in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. He preceded her in death May 4, 2001.

Numerous Nieces and Nephews
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur and Wayne Banzet; and two sisters, Helen A. Brown and Hazel Thomas.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, July 2, 2010, at the Edna United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Edna Elm Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont to sign the register from 1-8:00 p.m., on Thursday.
