Elsie Mae Shaffer, 96, of Dennis, died at 6:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 20, 2007, at the Elmhaven East Nursing Home in Parsons. She had been in failing health.
Being the youngest of seven children, she was born on April 21, 1910, in Galesburg, Kansas, to Louis and Lettie (Volk) Aronhalt. She grew up and attended schools in the Galesburg area.
She and Frank Shaffer were married on November 30, 1929, in Oswego, Kansas. He preceded her in death on April 18, 1966. She and her husband lived on various farms before moving to Parsons in 1957.
Through the years, she did babysitting, ironing and cared for the elderly.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers; one sister; one grandson, Earl Whetstone; one step-grandson, Bill George; one great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Ghering; and one daughter-in-law, Julia J. Shaffer.
Following cremation, the family will hold a private memorial service. Friends may call at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons to sign the register through Friday, March 23, 2007.
