Emerson Newberry

Emerson Newberry, 88, of St. Paul, died at 2:20 p.m., Tuesday, November 6, 2007, at Prairie Mission Retirement Village, in St. Paul, where he had resided since October 2006.

He was born January 18, 1919, at Hilltop, Arkansas, to Louis M. and Nancy E. (Jones) Newberry. At the age of 18, he moved with his family to Kansas.

On July 5, 1941, he and Hazel M. Culbertson, were married in Berryville, Arkansas. Following their marriage, they lived near Galesburg before moving to their farm south of St. Paul, in 1946.

He enjoyed trapping, hunting, fishing, cutting fire wood and posts, gardening, bowling on a neighborhood team, and making frequent trips back to Arkansas where he grew up. He especially enjoyed his chosen profession, farming.

Three Daughters – Carolyn Baker and her husband, Lee, of Parsons, KS;
Darlene Jeffrey and her husband, Dale, of Erie, KS;
Bernie Johnston and her husband, Jeff, of Bartlett, KS;
Twelve Grandchildren,
Nineteen Great-Grandchildren,
Six Siblings - Oda Dawson of Erie, KS;
Louise Hines of El Dorado Springs, MO;
Olvie Elmer of Walnut, KS;
Joan Volk of Erie, KS;
Elveta Dorris of Erie, KS; and
Beatrice Gafni of Israel.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Newberry, on October 5, 2003; one infant daughter, Gloria Newberry; two brothers, Eltie Newberry and Arvin Newberry; and two sisters, Juanita Davidson and Dorothy Armor.

Graveside services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 9, 2007, at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Galesburg. Friends may call at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons after 1:00 p.m., Thursday.
