Emil Albert "Red" Kennedy, Jr., 86, of St. Paul, passed away at 10:56 a.m., Monday, November 17, 2014 at Labette Health in Parsons.
He was born August 21, 1928 in St. Paul, Kansas to Emil A. (Mike) Kennedy, Sr. and Anna E. (Wagner) Kennedy. He grew up and attended school in St. Paul.
Through the years he worked at Beachner Construction, Hy-Grade Construction, Carter's Saw Mill, the St. Paul Superette, and in 1992 retired from the City of St. Paul as superintendent.
He was baptized Catholic. For 17 years he was on the volunteer fire department where he also served as fire chief. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and his grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing cards with his friends and traveling.
On October 21, 1950, he and Nina Pauline Noe were married in Girard. She preceded him in death on April 11, 1993. On October 22, 1994, he and Era "Alyene" (Farrington) Burt were married in St. Paul. She survives of the home.
In addition to his wife, survivors include four sons, Tom Kennedy and his wife, Helen, Ft. Myers, FL, Ed Kennedy, St. Paul, KS, Jack Kennedy and his wife, Teresa, St. Paul, KS and Jerry Kennedy and his wife, Melissa, Oak Park, IL; four daughters, Paula Hopkins and her husband, Joe, Franklin, KS, Nancy Threlfall and her husband, Terry, Girard, KS, Leann Kennedy, Chanute, KS, and Joan LaForte and her husband, Mark, St. Paul, KS; two step-children, Patsy Mills and her husband, Dale, Hooker, OK and Robert Cox and his wife, Brenda, Woodward, OK; 41 grandchildren, 71 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Candi Kennedy, St. Paul, KS; one brother, Raymond Kennedy and his wife, Faye, Munford, TN; one sister, Alberta Westhoff, St. Paul, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Sebastian Kennedy; two sisters, Betty Ann Kennedy and Mary Alice McCormick; two sons, Jim Kennedy and Tony Kennedy; three grandchildren, Bryan House, Brandon Kennedy and Bobby Kennedy; one great-granddaughter, Aurora Threlfall; and one step-daughter, Wanda Cantellay.
The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m., Friday, November 21, 2014 at St. Francis Parish Hall in St. Paul. The memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 22, 2014 at St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery near St. Paul.
