Ersie D. Strickland, 77, of rural Columbus, passed away at 6:31 p.m., Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at her home.
She was born June 20, 1939 in rural Chetopa, Kansas to James "Emmett" and Marie Ruth (Stapleton) Casey. She attended Columbus schools and was a 1957 graduate of Columbus High School.
She and Billie Lee McKee were married December 4, 1957 in Miami, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on May 12, 1960 following an automobile accident. On September 6, 1961, she and Kenneth Strickland were married in Miami, Oklahoma.
She was an active member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in rural Columbus. Ersie loved spending time with her family and friends, cooking, and attending church activities.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Ava Casey and Pauline Huneycutt; a son-in-law, Mark A. Carter; and a step-great-grandson, Mark A. Carter, III.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 1, 2016 at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in rural Columbus. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery near Columbus. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Thursday, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa.
