Ethel D. Jacobs, 89, of Erie, Kansas, died at 12:35 a.m., Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute. She was born October 5, 1923, in Baltimore, Maryland to George Edward and Bridgette "Birdy" (Dell) Imhoff. She grew up in Baltimore where she graduated from Seton Catholic High School. On March 16, 1944, she married William Hamlen Jacobs in Baltimore. Following her husband's discharge from the Merchant Marines during World War II, the couple lived in Glen Burnie and Pasadena, Maryland for numerous years before moving to rural Erie in 1995. While living in Glen Burnie, Ethel worked for Montgomery Wards and later the Department of Motor Vehicles until her retirement. She was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Erie and a former member of the Ferndale Roadrunners in Glen Burnie. She loved sewing and enjoyed gardening, watching baseball games, and making rosaries for the needy. Most of all, Ethel enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Survivors include: Two Sons – William E. Jacobs Pasadena, MD Michael D. Jacobs Owings Mills, MD Two Daughters – Eileen M. Beacham Ayden, NC Elizabeth A. DeMoss Erie, KS Nine Grandchildren Eight Great-Grandchildren Three Great-Great-Grandchildren She was preceded in death by her husband, William Jacobs, on October 11, 1999; one son, Tim Jacobs, on September 7, 2011; five sisters, Thelma Durkin, Virginia Long, Mary Morgan, Roberta Carpenter, and her identical twin sister, Edith Carr; and one grandson, David Dease. The rosary will be prayed at 5:00 p.m., Friday, April 26, 2013, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Erie. The funeral Mass will immediately follow the rosary at the church. Burial will be in New Cathedral Cemetery in Baltimore, Maryland, at a future date. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Thursday, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
