Eugene Edwards

Eugene L. "Gene" Edwards, 74, of Parsons, passed away the morning of Sunday, October 13, 2019, at Freeman Health System in Joplin, Missouri.

Eugene Louis Edwards was born to Louis Lydick and Anita Ellen (Wooster) Edwards in Parsons, Kansas on August 9, 1945. Growing up and attending school in the Erie area, Gene graduated from Erie High School in 1963. Gene earned an Associate's Degree from Christ Unlimited Bible Institute in Kansas City, Missouri. He also earned certificates from Electronics School, CNA and CMA Schools.

Gene worked at the Kansas State Grain Inspection in Kansas City, Missouri. For several years he owned and operated Edwards TV and Radio in Erie, Kansas. He also worked at Countryside Farm Store in Parsons for a time and Presbyterian Manor in Parsons, Kansas, for twelve years.

One of the greatest joys in Gene's life was ministering in different churches and nursing homes. One of the ministries was the Sonkissed Youth Group the family hosted in their home in Hannibal, Missouri. He was loved by all and loved everyone in return. Gene also enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing and fixing anything that needed fixing.

On May 20, 1964, Gene married the love of his life, Dorles "Ike" Lucke, in Kansas City, Missouri. She survives of the home.

One son – Louis Ray Edwards and his wife, Lisa, of Beavercreek, Ohio

Four grandchildren – Heather Carlstead of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida

Andrea Hume and her husband, Shane, of Erie, Kansas

Joshua Edwards of Beavercreek, Ohio

Kayla Edwards of Centerville, Ohio

Four great-grandsons – Keagen, Killian, Jespen and Shiloh Hume

Two sisters – Rita Sexton of Hollister, Missouri

Peggy Jobe and her husband, Donnie of Pittsburg, Missouri

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 17, 2019, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Friends may call after 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Burial will take place at East Hill Cemetery in Erie, Kansas.
