Eugene M. "Gene" Bortmes, 89, of Oswego, Kansas, formerly of Tulsa, Oklahoma, died at 5:10 p.m., Friday, March 22, 2013, at his home.
He was born April 2, 1923, in rural Chandler, Oklahoma, to Merle A. and Viola (Dye) Bortmes. He grew up and attended school in Chandler, and continued his education at Oklahoma State University where he earned a Master's degree in chemical engineering.
Through the years, he worked at Douglas Aviation, Rockwell Aerospace and later Boeing until retiring. Following his retirement, he returned to work on three separate occasions.
He was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church in Tulsa. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, online stock trading and was a master woodworker.
He and Joy D. Hill were married in 1941. She preceded him in death on June 1, 2012.
Survivors include
Three Sons - Dr. Phillip Bortmes and his wife, Kayley, Oswego, KS;
Clifford Bortmes and his wife, Rita, Mounds, OK;
David Bortmes, Oswego, KS;
Three Grandchildren - Danielle Bortmes, Kristina Bortmes and Tyler Sparks
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Keith Bortmes.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in Oswego Cemetery. Friends may call at their convenience after 1:00 p.m., on Tuesday, at the funeral home.
