Eugenia B. "Jeanie" LaForge, 83, of Parsons, died at 5:00 p.m., Monday, September 28, 2009, at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.
She was born April 18, 1926, in St. Paul, Kansas, to Jacob Francis and Bertha Mae (Jennings) VanLeeuwen. As a young girl, she grew up in St. Paul where she attended Lone Elm Country School and was a 1944 graduate of St. Francis High School.
For a time, she worked at Owen Department Store in St. Paul and Wright and Dunham Hardware Store in Erie.
She and Edward "Bernard" LaForge were married December 27, 1948, at St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul. Following marriage they lived in Joliet, Illinois, returned to St. Paul in 1950, and moved to Parsons in 1959 where they made their home and raised their family of ten children.
She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons and was a former member of its Altar Society. She enjoyed working puzzles, sewing, embroidering, and quilting. She especially had enjoyed making a quilt for each one of her children and their spouses, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard LaForge, on September 8, 1989; two brothers, Roger and Ted VanLeeuwen; three sisters, Geraldine "Jerry" Hill, Gertrude Forbes, and Cleo Jacquinot; and two grandchildren, Haven LaForge and Brant LaForge.
The funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 1, 2009, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery in St. Paul. The rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church where the family will receive friends immediately following in Parish Hall.
