Evelyn F. Hardeman, 84, of Pittsburg, died at 4:05 a.m., Saturday, August 8, 2009, at Medicalodge South in Pittsburg where she had resided since March 1998.

She was born May 22, 1925, in Cumberland County, Tennessee, to Shirley and Mertie Lee (Reed) Smith. As a young girl, she moved to Oklahoma with her family where they lived in Granite, Oklahoma, Altus, Oklahoma, and later Corpus Christi, Texas.

She and John L. Hardeman were married February 23, 1945, in Corpus Christi, Texas. Through the years, they lived in Leavenworth and Shawnee, Kansas; Trenton, Missouri, and Ft. Dodge, Iowa, before moving to Pittsburg, Kansas, in August 1992. He preceded her in death April 12, 2008.

She was a member of the Christian Church in Pittsburg, and in earlier years, was raised as a Baptist. She enjoyed playing bridge and spending time with her family.

Two Grandsons – Ron Hardeman Wichita, KS
Brian Hardeman Manhattan, KS
Two Great-Grandchildren – Trenton Hardeman & Lily Hardeman
Three Sisters – Shirley Richey Orange, TX
Edna Mae Maddox Corpus Christi, TX
Gwen Nelson Victoria, TX

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and six sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 14, 2009, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons with burial to follow at 1:30 p.m., in Ft. Scott National Cemetery, Ft. Scott, Kansas. The casket will remain closed.
