Evelyn A. J. Brungardt, 85, of Galesburg, died early Wednesday morning, December 11, 2013 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.
She was born February 19, 1928 to John Edward and Regina (Volmer) Lortz at rural South Mound, Kansas. As a young girl she attended school at South Mound and St. Paul and was a graduate of St. Francis High School in St. Paul. Following high school, she worked for a time at Hallmark Cards in Parsons.
On September 9, 1950, she and John Brungardt were married at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in South Mound. After marriage, they lived in Wichita where she worked at Boeing Aircraft and in 1955 moved to Derby, Kansas. In 1970, the family moved to Galesburg where they operated a dairy farm for many years. Through the years, she had also worked at IMI in Parsons and Bush Hog in Galesburg.
She was a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, now St. Patrick's, in Parsons and a current member of St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul and the Daughters of Isabella. She was also a member of the Friendship Club in South Mound and in earlier years enjoyed square dancing and stained glass crafts. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Seven Grandchildren – Mary Brown and husband, David; Anna Brungardt, Jack Brungardt, Michael Brungardt, Katie Brungardt, Matthew Brungardt and Brian Brungardt
One Sister – Mary McMillan and husband, Jay South Mound, KS
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Brungardt, on May 12, 2008; one brother, John Edward Lortz, II; two sisters, Esther Foreman and Johnna Reed; and one grandson, Jonathan Brungardt.
The funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 14, 2013 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m., Friday, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. The family will receive friends at 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to St. Patrick's School Endowment Fund or Prairie Mission Retirement Village where she had resided the past three years. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
