Fern Ruth Baker, 88, a Mound Valley resident for over 80 years, died at 3:25 p.m., Monday, May 14, 2007, at the Fredonia Regional Hospital in Fredonia, Kansas.
She was born November 29, 1918, in Altamont, Kansas to Ira Edwin and Elizabeth (Roberts) Baker. At the age of three, she moved with her parents to Mound Valley, Kansas. She attended Mound Valley Grade School and graduated from Mound Valley High School in 1938.
She was a member of the Mound Valley Christian Church for over 80 years, the Mound Valley Historical Club, Mound Valley Senior Citizens and the 1918 Club. Most of her adult life she spent working in sewing factories at Reliance and H.D. Lee in Cherryvale and the Berry factory in Oswego. She was a homemaker and cared for her parents for many years. She also had worked at the Mound Valley library for numerous years before retiring in 1982. She had resided at the Parsons Good Samaritan Center the past five years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Opal Faye Baker in 1923; and a brother, Ira E. "Joe" Baker in 2005.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 21, 2007, at the Mound Valley Christian Church. Burial will be in Mound Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m., Sunday, May 20, 2007, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont.
