Mary "Fidelis" Starr, 96, formerly of Coffeyville, died Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at Manor Care Health Services in Overland Park, Kansas.

She was born March 22, 1916, in Coffeyville, Kansas, to Thomas and Hannah (Ridgeway) McGrath. As a young girl, she grew up and attended schools in Coffeyville and was a graduate of Coffeyville High School.

She and Howard Eugene "Gene" Starr, Sr. were married in Coffeyville. For a time, during World War II, the couple lived in Canada while Gene finished pilot training. When her husband went overseas, Fidelis returned to Coffeyville. They also lived in Arkansas City, Pittsburg, Parsons, Wichita, Topeka, and following their retirement in Branson, Missouri. She had lived in Overland Park the past two years to be near family.

She enjoyed sewing.

Mike Starr Salina, KS
Two Grandchildren
Three Great-Grandchildren

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Starr; one brother, Michael McGrath; two sisters, Nellie Pierce and Nora Brookshire; and one granddaughter, Jennifer (Starr) Charlton.

The funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 4, 2013, at the Holy Name Catholic Church in Coffeyville. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Coffeyville. Friends may call at the church after 10:00 a.m., on Monday.
