Florence L. (Curry) Kimrey, 99, of Pittsburg, passed away at 1:15 a.m., Thursday, February 19, 2026.
Born at the family home in Coffeyville to James and Margarette (Carroll) Curry on July 23, 1926, she was their second child and the oldest daughter of seven children. She attended rural schools in the Coffeyville and Edna area through the 8th grade. In 1970, she completed her GED. She worked at various manufacturing sites in Labette County and retired as the supervisor of the laundry at Parsons State Hospital and Training Center.
She was raised in the Church of God and attended the First Baptist Church of Edna. In her last 15 years, she attended College Heights United Methodist Church in Pittsburg.
An excellent cook and seamstress, she made her daughters’ clothes for many years and taught them how to cook and sew.
On February 14, 1945, she married Virgil Kimrey at the county courthouse in Oswego while he was home on leave from the Army. After a short time in Independence, Missouri, they made their home in Edna. They had two daughters, Joyce Kimrey Bever (Bob) and Deanna Kimrey Loughmiller (Tom).

Son-in-law – Bob Bever of Liberty, Kansas
Five grandchildren – Melissa Lester (Rod) of Independence, Kansas; Shelly Corbin (Joe) of Overland Park, Kansas; Rob Bever (Kristi) of Liberty, Kansas; Ryan Loughmiller (Angie) of Pittsburg, Kansas; and Kimrey Loughmiller of Pittsburg, Kansas
Nine great-grandchildren – Spencer Lester (Chynna) of Aurora, Colorado; Gabe Corbin of Overland Park, Kansas; Robbie, Kari, and Kyle Bever of Liberty, Kansas; Blake, Brooklyn, Ava and Cannon Loughmiller of Pittsburg, Kansas
Two great-great-grandchildren - Roosevelt and her namesake, Florence Lester of Aurora, Colorado
One sister – Ann Barker (Ray) of St. Charles, Missouri
Two brothers – Bill Curry (Carol Sue) of Grove, Oklahoma
Earl Dean Curry (Sandy) of Joplin, Missouri
One sister-in-law – Wanda Curry of Lee’s Summit, Missouri
Many nieces and nephews in the Curry and Kimrey families
She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil; her daughter, Joyce Kimrey Bever; one sister, Betty Kaiser (Charles); and two brothers, James David “JD” Curry (Helen) and Glenden Curry.
The Celebration of Life will be from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday, February 23, 2026, at College Heights United Methodist Church in Pittsburg. A private family burial will take place at Edna Elmgrove Cemetery in Edna.
Memorials are suggested to College Heights United Methodist Church. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 342, Parsons, KS 67357.
