Florence A. Williams, 91, of rural Bartlett, passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at her home.
Florence Ann Walborn was born on April 23, 1935, to Earnest and Lillian (Harmon) Walborn in Manchester, Oklahoma. She grew up and attended school in Oklahoma, until her junior year of high school. At that time, she moved to Kansas to live with her sister and attended Labette County Community High School, where she graduated in 1953.
On December 28, 1952, Florence and Dwayne E. Williams were united in marriage in Cherokee, Oklahoma. Dwayne served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. Upon his honorable discharge, the couple settled in Labette City until moving to the Independence area in 1956. They moved to the Cherryvale area in 1972, where they farmed until retiring and moving to Grand Lake in 1995. In 2009, she returned to rural Bartlett. Throughout those years, Florence worked at JCPenney’s in Independence for seven years. Her first and most important job in life was mother and farm wife. The couple enjoyed working together on the farm, but they also enjoyed having fun, especially on their many motorcycle rides. When living at Grand Lake, Florence loved lake life and made many memories. Upon returning to the farm, Florence loved being on the farm with the horses, the cattle and her family. Most importantly, no matter where she lived, family was at the center of her life. She was a devoted mother and doting grandmother. No one could ask for better.
