Frances Ellen Eichhorn, 94, formerly of Altamont, died August 7, 2015, in Thornton, Colorado.
She was born Frances McConnell October 31, 1920 in rural Cherryvale, Kansas to parents Glenn and Hazel (Pennington) McConnell. She grew up on the family farm in rural Labette County, which is now a part of Big Hill Lake. Her life was spent in rural Cherryvale and she moved to Altamont in 1965.
She graduated from Labette County High School in 1938 and began teaching elementary school in a one-room school in Southeast Kansas. In 1966, she graduated from Pittsburg State College with a Bachelor's degree in elementary education, later receiving her Master's degree from the same school. She continued teaching special education at Unified School District 506 until retiring in 1980.
Frances married Joe Newland in 1940. They had three daughters. She married a second time to Paul Eichhorn, life-long resident of Altamont, August 8, 1970. She and Paul enjoyed travelling, golf, Royals baseball, reading, and family time.
Survivors include two daughters, Dixie Feld (John Feld), Westminster, CO and Janie Simon (Allan Simon) of Marrero, LA; step-daughter, Judy Tipping (Lee Tipping) Enid, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren; one sister, Bonnie Oliver, Elk City, KS; and two brothers, Bob McConnell, Oswego, KS, and Dean McConnell, Cherryvale, KS.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Eichhorn; her parents, Glenn and Hazel McConnell; one brother, Louis McConnell; daughter, Joleen Holiday; step-son Michael Eichhorn; and two grandsons, Joshua and Marc.
The family will receive friends from 10-11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 13, 2015 at the Altamont United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, at the church immediately following visitation. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Altamont.
