Francis W. "Pops" Cooper, 93, of Chetopa, died at 6:50 a.m., Sunday, February 10, 2008, at his home. He had been in failing health.
He was born December 27, 1914, in Oswego, Kansas, to John Franklin and Cora (Smith) Cooper. He grew up and attended schools in Oswego graduating from Oswego High School in 1932.
He and Elizabeth M. Harshaw were married May 25, 1941, in Columbus, Kansas. She survives of the home.
In 1945, his family moved to California. Upon returning to southeast Kansas in 1963, Chetopa became his new home where he owned and operated Chetopa Ice and Locker Company until 1984. After retiring from his business, he operated the Chetopa Car Wash for a number of years.
In the 1930's, he and his brothers played semi-pro basketball and had the distinction of being the only all-brother basketball team and are listed in Ripley's Believe It Or Not. He was a supporter of Chetopa sports, an avid bowler and enjoyed fishing and golfing. He participated in MDA golf tournaments until he reached the age of 91.

John and his wife, Mary Jo, Scottsdale, AZ;
Jim and his wife, Charlotte, Chetopa, KS;
One Daughter – Beth Baltimore, MD;
Seven Grandchildren – Kim, Matt, Jodie, Kelly, Chad, Bryce and Dane;
Four Great-Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by six brothers and five sisters.
Graveside services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 14, 2008, at Oswego Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 13, 2008, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa.
