Francis J. La Forge

Francis J. "Pete" La Forge, 93, of St. Paul, died at 3:39 a.m., Monday, October 30, 2006 at the Labette County Medical Center in Parsons.

He was born May 15, 1913 in Brazilton, Kansas to Constant D. and Kathryn J. (Murnane) La Forge. He grew up in the Brazilton/Greenbush area. For a time, he worked with his father shipping hay and raising horses. In 1934, he moved to Big Island south of St. Paul and has lived there his entire adult life. He farmed, maintained pecan groves, raised cattle and was an excellent horseman.

On January 9, 1935 he married Barbara Krashoc at the St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Greenbush. She preceded him in death on March 28, 1975. On June 22, 1979, he and Gladys (Morris) Marks were married. She survives of the home.

He enjoyed horse races, card playing, going to Las Vegas, hunting and raising quarter horses. He was a member of the Osage Hills Country Club in St. Paul and a 70-year member of St. Francis Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lorrene Downs; a grandson, Joseph A. Kennedy; a brother, William J. La Forge, and a sister, Ellen Marie Sork.

Funeral Mass is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Thursday, November 2, 2006 at the St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul. Burial will be in the St. Francis Cemetery. The Rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, November 1, 2006 at the St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul where friends may call after 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends following the rosary.
