Fred J. Bergkamp, 71, of Chetopa, died at 1:38 a.m., Thursday, October 6, 2011, at Oswego Community Hospital.
He was born January 5, 1940, in St. Joseph Ost, Kansas, to Fred Bergkamp, Sr. and Elizabeth (May) Bergkamp. He attended elementary school in St. Joseph Ost, was a graduate of Andale High School, and attended Business College in Wichita. He later served in the U.S. Army and the National Guard Reserves.
He and Lou Ann Eck were married July 26, 1961 in St. Marks, Kansas. In 1977, the family moved to Southeast Kansas where they have lived since. He enjoyed farming and spending time with his family.
He was a member of the Mother of God Catholic Church in Oswego and was a 4th degree honor guard of the Knights of Columbus where he had served in various capacities.

Two Grandchildren – Ben and Emma Bergkamp
One Brother – James Bergkamp Webster City, IA
Two Sisters – Mary Annuschat Winfield, KS
Lavina Lewis Mountain View, CA
He was preceded in death by seven siblings.
The funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 10, 2011, at the Mother of God Catholic Church in Oswego. Burial will be in St. Rose Cemetery in Chetopa. The rosary will be prayed at 5:00 p.m., Sunday, at the church where the family will receive friends immediately following the rosary.
