Fred L. Ferguson, 88, of rural Mound Valley, Kansas, passed away at 12:15 A.M., Saturday, July 9, 2016 at the Parsons Presbyterian Manor.
Fred was born January 4, 1928 in Longton, Kansas to Besto Western "B.W." Ferguson and Barbara Meriah (Piesker) Ferguson. He grew up and attended school in the Elk City area. He attended the Independence High School where he graduated in 1945.
Fred was united in marriage to L. Bessie Berndt on December 14, 1947 at Bolton, Kansas. Following their marriage, they lived south of Mound Valley. His love of the land and soil led him into his life's adventure of farming. Being born and raised in southeast Kansas, nothing his entire life, made him happier than working in the fields with his John Deere tractors. He also loved visiting with his friends!
Fred was a very active member of the Mound Valley Christian Church where he taught Sunday School for many years. He was also an avid sports fan, especially of the Kansas City Royals, the Kansas City Chiefs and in earlier years, the St. Louis Cardinals. Fred and Bessie had enjoyed Square Dancing in the past. He had also coached youth baseball teams in the area and served as a 4H leader. Fred had been a very active member of the National Farmers Organization and in earlier years had been active with the Mound Valley Boosters Club.

Gerald Ferguson (Leslie) of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma
One Daughter: Barbara Burnett (Mike) of Benton, Kansas
Five Grandchildren: David Hapner, Darmin Owings, Chad Ferguson, Kelly Gerstenkorn and Lacey Boone.
Two Step-grandsons: Jeremy Burnett and Damean Burnett
Sixteen Great-grandchildren
Two Great-great-grandsons
One Brother-in-law: Bob Thomas of Bartlesville, Oklahoma
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Delores Thomas.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, July 16, 2016 at the Mound Valley Christian Church with Pastor Stuart Ward officiating. Burial will follow at the Mound Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Mound Valley Christian Church from 6 to 7 P.M. Friday. For family health reasons, It is requested that friends attending the visitation and services refrain from wearing perfume or aftershave.
