Freda M. McMunn, 87, of Parsons, died at 5:50 p.m., Sunday, April 25, 2010, at Elmhaven East Nursing Home in Parsons. She had been in failing health.
She was born April 17, 1923, in rural Parsons, Kansas, to Fred W. and Edna L. (Landreth) Palmer. She was a lifelong resident of Labette County where she attended Altamont schools and was a 1941 graduate of Labette County Community High School. Following high school graduation, she taught three years at Hiatt School and two years at Center Country School.
On May 19, 1946, she and Eugene S. McMunn were married at her home. Through the years, she assisted her husband with their farming operation. After their children were grown, she worked in the fabric department at J.C. Penney's in Parsons for 15 years until retirement.
In 1957, she became a sewing 4-H project leader and later a community leader. In earlier years, she was a member of Spring Valley Church and presently the Center Bethel Union Church where she attended Study Club and had held various offices. She taught high school Sunday school for many years, enjoyed singing in the church choir, and was an avid community historian and genealogist. She especially enjoyed family gatherings and attending her grandchildren's numerous activities.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene McMunn, October 16, 1994; and one son-in-law, Marvin Anderegg.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 29, 2010, at Center Bethel Union Church. Burial will be in Springhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
