Freddie M. Abshere

Freddie M. Abshere, 76, of Oswego and formerly of rural Bartlett, passed away the morning of August 20, 2020, at his home. His death was unexpected.

Freddie Marvin Abshere was born on March 17, 1944, to Marvin O. and Leona "Bo" (Grimes) Abshere in Carnegie, Oklahoma. As a young boy, he grew up and attended schools in the Lawton, Oklahoma, area.

Following graduation from Lawton High School in 1962, Freddie worked for Texas Instruments. He then joined the family business, "Marvin's Burgers," in Lawton for a time. He then owned and operated Freddie's Restaurant in Elgin, Oklahoma, and later became a general manager for Hardee's restaurants in Winfield, Newton, and Coffeyville. He was also the owner and operator of the Old Timer Café in Altamont and had a small engine repair business in Chetopa for a time.

Longtime member of Bartlett United Methodist Church, Freddie also served as lay pastor at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Chetopa. He was a member of the Lions Club in Altamont. One of his greatest joys came from playing guitar and singing gospel music. For several years, he recorded songs as a music ministry. He participated in the ministry, Comforting Angels, transporting the elderly to appointments. With his wife, Stella, he started S.A.F. Ministries and enjoyed witnessing the Lord's Word to many people. Spending time on the family farm in rural Bartlett, was one of his favorite things in life.

In 1963, he married Lynn Haynes. The couple later divorced. In 1973, Freddie and Linda Berry were married. The couple later divorced. On October 2, 1982, he and Stella Bush were united in marriage in Arkansas City, Kansas. She survives of the home.

Gayle Trotman and her husband, Anthony, of Laverna, Texas

One sister – Fredda Toole and her husband, Bob, of Lake Way, Texas

He was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter, Ashleigh Pacheco.

The memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 25, 2020, at the Bartlett Community Church, formerly Bartlett United Methodist Church, in Bartlett, Kansas. Inurnment will follow at Lake Creek Cemetery in Bartlett. The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the church. The funeral service will be livestreamed on the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home Facebook page.
