Frederick "Eugene" Ryan, 86, of Altamont, died at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, March 22, 2012, at Elmhaven East Nursing Home in Parsons.
He was born September 17, 1925 in Nevada, Missouri to Fred and Opal (Lovell) Ryan. As a young boy, he grew up and attended school in Nevada where he was a 1942 graduate of Nevada High School. During World War II, Gene served in the United States Navy. In the 1960s he moved to Altamont where he worked as a dispatcher for the Burlington Northern Railroad until retiring.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Altamont and the Altamont Senior Center where he had served as president. He enjoyed fishing and hunting raccoons.
He and Donna Thomas were married. They later divorced. On July 12, 1968, he and Doris Pettit were married in Miami, Oklahoma. She survives of the home.
In addition to his wife, survivors include, one son, Terry Ryan of Grove, Oklahoma; one daughter, Kathy Berry of Lamar, Missouri; six grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one brother, Ray Ryan of Nevada, Missouri. He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 26, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Altamont. Burial will follow at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery at Altamont. Friends may call at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont from 1 to 6 p.m., Sunday.
